Year End Message

Hinsdale High School District 86

By:  Mr. George L. Kumis, President, Board of Education and
Dr. Nicholas D. Wahl, Superintendent of Schools

As always, the reason for all of our efforts in District 86 is our students. We will not lose sight of this reason and will promote initiatives that afford students the opportunities to be the best individuals possible. It is indeed a great honor for us to serve a district where its students not only strive to achieve academically, but also volunteer and care for each other and their communities. This holiday season, we have seen a great outpouring from our District 86 students: from 22,000 pounds of food collected in the Hinsdale South annual food drive, to the 211 people and 55 families that “Clubs that Care” at Hinsdale Central supported with food and gifts for this special time of year.

Our continued positive reputation is largely determined by the quality of education delivered on a daily basis to the students. To further promote this healthy learning environment, please know that we will make every effort to ensure the safety of our students in everything that we do as a school district. These continued efforts will foster a positive climate for student learning and develop a culture that embraces the traditions of excellence in District 86 that make our District one of the top school districts in the Chicagoland area.

Also, the Board of Education and administration have worked diligently to maintain the high level of academic offerings while being fiscally responsible with the funds afforded to them by the taxpayers of this community. This end of the year report indicates a fiscally-prudent fund balance that will allow us to maintain these programs into the future for the students of District 86.

Over the past two years, we have sought community input as we develop District goals and to plan for the future technology initiatives which benefit students in the classroom.  These community engagement opportunities provided us with valuable information to enhance what we do for our students.  Please look for future community engagement opportunities as we work together for the betterment of District 86.

We look forward to 2007 with a renewed optimism as we serve the District 86 school community.
