Tips for Success in Program Success

In program success there are many things that can make you more successful. Here are a few of our recomendations to help you do better in school.

Academic:
If you are struggling with a subject go in and see the teacher! Don't just give up. Also, you can always ask myself, Mr. Smith, or Mr. V in Program Success for help. Between the two of us, we have most subjects covered.

Organization:
Write down all of your classes in your assignment notebook every day, even if you don't have homework in them. That way, when you use your assignment notebook and you see NONE next to a subject you won't worry if you do actually have something.

Use the homework board in Program Success. This helps you see when your major projects, tests, and quizzes are. It also helps us to know what you have going on so that we can help you. The board is located behind Mr. Smith. It has a whole weeks worth of work, and the next Monday. It is your responsibility to  update it. We can't always know everything, even though we try. At the end of each week one of the teachers will shift everything over to the next week.

If you have to much in your book bag use our locker area that is right by the door. You can put your name on a cubby hole and use it to store books.

Social/Emotional:
Sometimes you just can't remain calm and you need to get out of a situation. You can feel yourself starting to twitch and you feel like you are going to erupt. What are you going to do? Here are some basic strategies that you can use, and some resources you might want to read. ALso, make sure that if you need to see a social worker you are asking to do so.

  1. Count to 10 and take a deep breath
  2. Ask the person to leave you alone
  3. Use a journal or write a letter that you will never send
  4. Ask to speake to a social worker
  5. Come see your case manager
  6. Read some of these resources for other ideas.
