Each rung of the ladder consists of a pair of bases.

The rung is made up of either an A with a T

or a G with a C

GC.jpg (122609 bytes)

It only works with A with T or  G with C because

A doesn't fit with C and it won't fit with G either

AC.jpg (104030 bytes)

and G doesn't fit with T or A

A good way to remember this is
