WHAT IS J.E.T.S.? JETS is the Junior Engineering Technical Society, a national organization devoted to encouraging students to study Engineering and expose students to Engineering type careers.
In 2008 we won 7 trophies (an HC JETS record!) WYSE (3): Regional, Sectional, State TEAMS (4): Regional, Regional JV, National, National JV
WHAT DO WE DO? The JETS Team is composed of 24-32 top scholars who compete against other schools in a couple of different types of tests. JETS is a team and not a club, so students are selected by tryout or by invitation. Tryouts for the team allow a student to compete in one or both of our tests.
WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) is more individual, with a team score being derived from a combination of individual efforts. Students take tests in two subjects (English, Computer Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Physics) and those scores are put together to get a team score which is compared against scores of other schools. WYSE has three levels (Regional, Sectional, and State) and we can shuffle our line-up at each level.
TEAMS (Testing of Engineering Aptitude, Math and Science) is more collaborative, with teams of 8 students discussing engineering situations and proposing common solutions. They get to bring in textbooks, work together, and are encouraged to bring in yummy snacks. TEAMS has two levels of competition and schools can be ranked against other schools in the Region, State, or the Nation.
WHEN DO WE DO IT? Tryouts are around mid-October, with the team announced shortly thereafter. WYSE Regional: Early February at Naperville North High School, in Naperville. WYSE Sectional: Mid-March at North Central College in Naperville, if we qualify. TEAMS State and Nationals: Mid-March at the Illinois Institute of Technology campus in Wheaton. WYSE State: Early April at the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana, if we qualify. |
