Auxiliary Views allow the student to experiment with seeing objects that are not in the normal orthographic planes.

Sectional Views allow the student to experiment with "slicing" through an object to "see" details that would be shown as hidden lines in an orthographic drawing.

Geometric Construction exercises allow the student to experiment with advanced orthographic drawing tools to build on the basic drawing skills introduced in Pre-Engineering I.

The Illinois Drafting Educator's Association yearly contest has some wonderful solid modeling problems for practice.

Purpose

Detail Drawings provide the student with exercises in understanding advanced visualization and modeling using standard units of measure and metric units.

The Kitchen Project provides the student with architectural floor planning and elevation exercises.

The Watch & Cell phone projects allow the student to experiment with electro-mechanical design and 3D modeling.

The Shed project allows the student to experiment with Architectural Modeling.

The Independent Project allows the student to experiment in an area of interest with all of the drawing and design tools that they have learned using AutoCAD. Communication is key to the success of this project. Let your instructor know what you would like to model. Discuss your progress in the project as the term goes on. You must start the project at school. You may continue at home if you have communicated that you want to work on the project at home. As "Rome was not built in a day", this project is not one that should be completed in a couple of hours. Working on it throughout the term is best. It is a practical and applied design project that will demonstrate both drawing skills and design concepts. This project will be presented to class and should have several layouts with titleblock and viewports set. Set at least two viewports realistic with materials to better inform the audience.

Illinois Drafting Educators Association

Each year the Illinois Drafting Educators Association sponsors drawing competition held regionally at community colleges and state final competition at Illinois State University. We send the best of our best to learn what others have learned and demonstrate personal success.
