OBJECTIVE:  To determine the relationship between time and temperature when cooling

                         a cup of coffee.

PROCEDURE:

1)      SAFETY NOTE:  BE CAREFUL!!!  COFFEE IS HOT!!!

3)      Sketch the graph of the data points on graph paper.  Remember to label your axes.

4)      Graph the data points on the TI-83 Plus.  (Use STAT and STATPLOT).

5)      Predict what kind of graph (line or curve) fits this data.  __________________

6)      Use STAT: CALC to find the equation of best fit.  Write the equation here.

TEACHER NOTES:

Depending on how much equipment you have available, you may have groups of 3-4 students do the experiment or you may perform the experiment and have the students enter the same data.

Temperature may be measured in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Depending on how long your classes are, you may record the temperature for a shorter or longer period of time.

Graphing of the data may be done on paper, on TI-83 Plus, and/or PASCO.
