For Your Information....
I have been teaching at Hinsdale South since the 1979 school year. I have taught Biology, foundations level Biology, Chemistry, honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Science Issues in the Eighties and Nineties, Introductory Physical Science and AP Environmental Science. I have sponsored our school's Science Club, coached soccer, been a sponsor of the AIDS Education Network, and an event supervisor for the Science Olympiad. I currently sponsor the Environmental Concerns Club. I have been a student mentor and a new teacher mentor. I have served on numerous committees during my tenure at this school, including the Principal's Advisory Committee, the School Improvement Plan committee and the Staff Development Committee. I have been a participant and teacher of teachers in "Writing across the Curriculum". I have also served on committees to interview new principals, department chair and teachers and participated as a Technology Committee member. I have been a member and co-chair of the school's Vision and Mission Committee. I also participate in the Hinsdale South Teacher's Association Professional Excellence Committee.
Over the years, I have done several presentations to teachers and pre-service teachers at local and national conferences on topics such as “Right Brained Chemistry”, “Chemistry You Can Eat”, “Using Computer Visualization in Teaching Chemistry” and “Using Computers in Teaching Chemistry”. I have lead summer workshops on using computers in the science classroom and connecting math, science & technology in the classroom. During the summers of 2006 and 2007, I wrote curriculum for Chicago Public Schools working with the Illinois Institute of Technology and their High School Transformation Project. In the summer of 2007, I facilitated an assessment workshop at UIUC for high school teachers and graduate students who are working with high school teachers. I have participated for five years in the National Science Foundation's, GK12 program, working with graduate students from UIUC in my classroom. During the 2006-2007 school year I served as a program mentor within GK12. The goals of this program are to increase the use of computer visualization and applications into the chemistry curriculum and also allow students to interact with working scientists. During the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 school years, I was involved with the University of Illinois at Urbana's Math Science Visualization Project. I am currently working on my PhD in science education at the Illinois Institute of Technology. I have happily finished my coursework.
