Hinsdale Township High School District 86
By: Mr. Dennis A. Brennan, President, Board of Education and
Dr. Nicholas D. Wahl, Superintendent of Schools
Communication to our constituents and strategic planning for the
future continue to be two of our top priorities in working with
our District 86 community. We have recently published the first
District 86 newsletter, Community Connections. This
publication was mailed to all postal patrons living within the
District 86 boundaries the week of December 10, and is also
available online at
www.hinsdale86.org We also are excited to invite all
community members to sign up for our new listserv e-news
service. Simply by visiting
ww.hinsdale86.org and clicking on the e-news link,
individuals can “subscribe” to any or all three of the options
available including District 86 e-news, Hinsdale South e-news
and Hinsdale Central e-news. By signing up to receive these
communication vehicles, an individual will receive all notices,
weekly email updates, and any breaking news affecting District
86 and the two high schools
Additionally, we are engaging faculty, staff, current students,
recent graduates, parents, and community members as we seek to
determine a long-range plan for the direction and future of
District 86. We are excited about the process so far, as various
focus groups of students, parents, faculty, staff,
administrators and Board of Education members have provided
invaluable insight and input into this initiative. Surveys to
our constituents will be distributed in the coming weeks. In
addition, community members will be invited to participate in an
open forum in the coming months from which we hope to glean
further insights and ideas. A report will be forthcoming later
in the school year for implementation in 2008-2009.
All of these efforts serve to help us celebrate the most
important aspect of District 86 – our students. We have an
amazing group of young people who enter the doors of Hinsdale
Central and Hinsdale South each day. They are not only
motivated to learn, but are motivated to volunteer and help
others in incredible ways. This is probably never more evident
than at this time of year. Hinsdale South students recently
donated 20,180 pounds of food in the school’s 23rd
Annual Holiday Food Drive. All of this food was donated to three
local food pantries that serve families right here within the
District 86 boundaries. Hinsdale Central students have raised
$10,000 to purchase books for students in New Orleans and to aid
in de-worming children in Haiti.
As a community, we hope that you will join us in honoring the
young people of District 86 as they seek to not only make a
difference in their school, but to also make a difference in the
world.
