| District 86 is at
the cutting edge of technology, both in the classroom and in the
infrastructure supporting the deployed computers. The
backbone of the system is a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 clustered
environment, using Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Gigabyte
Fiber. In District 86, there are over 2000 PC’s and more than 4500 users. Several miles
of cable, dozens of hubs and numerous other networking devices
link all the machines together. All District 86 students have
accounts on the network, along with Outlook email accounts.
There are also as many as 100 additional software packages that
are available for student use.
