Seal of Biliteracy

The first testing round for the Seal of Biliteracy for the Class of 2027 is Friday, Oct. 9. The second round will be on a Saturday in February.  A link to register for testing will be shared on this website at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.

What languages are available for testing on the above dates?
American Sign Language (ASL), Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

What if the language I speak is not listed above?
Any seniors who speak languages at home other than those listed above should also complete the registration form to initiate the request for language testing. While we cannot guarantee that there is an Illinois-approved test for languages not included in the list above, we are usually able to accommodate most requests.

What if I've already taken the AP exam for my language?
Students who earn a 4 or 5 on their world language AP exam in Spring of 2023 automatically qualify for the Seal if they have at least a 480 on the SAT EBRW for English and therefore do not need to take the Saturday Seal of Biliteracy exam.

Please read below about the Seal of Biliteracy program as well as access preparation information in the linked handout.
