Foreign Exchange Students
For the 2026-27 school year, District 86 will accept up to two Foreign Exchange Students at each high school.
Annually the Board of Education will determine Foreign Exchange Student program participation for the next school year. However, the high schools and the Board reserve the right to accept no applications in any given school year. At its discretion, the District may assign Foreign Exchange Students to one school or the other, regardless of the attendance center in which they reside.
J-1 Visa Students
District 86 accepts qualified J-1 Foreign Exchange Students who reside in the district as a participant in a sponsored exchange program on a limited annual basis in accordance with Board of Education Policy 7:50 and Policy 7:50 AP Guidelines for Acceptance of Foreign Exchange Students.
Attendance at the District is for cultural exchange and academic enrichment purposes only. It does not represent working towards the completion of a standard U.S. high school diploma, or the earning of academic credits required to graduate.
District 86 will not award exchange program participants an official high school diploma.
J-1 Visa Program Requirements
Foreign exchange students are subject to the same federal and state laws, district policies, regulations, procedures, rules of conduct, attendance requirements, and academic performance requirements as all other students enrolled in District 86.
