Intra-District Transfers
District 86 assigns students to a high school based on residency within attendance boundaries. Families may request an intra-district transfer for a student to attend the other District 86 high school when the student could be better accommodated there, provided space is available. The process is governed by Board Policy 7:30 - Student Assignment and Intra-District Transfer.
Types of Intra-District Transfer Requests
As of January 2026, District 86 provides two transfer pathways:
Choice Transfer
A Choice Transfer is a request for a student assigned to the higher-population school (currently Hinsdale Central) to attend the lower-population school (currently Hinsdale South).
Student Experience Transfer
A Student Experience Transfer is a request supported by unique or individualized circumstances showing that the student could be better accommodated at the other school. Examples may include social/emotional considerations, safety-related concerns, family logistics, or other documented factors.

- Explanation and/or supporting documentation describing the circumstances for the request
